September sees the launch of the new 71 registration plate and, with Covid restrictions being relaxed, it is forecast to be a strong month for sales.
September is traditionally the second biggest month for registrations, after March the other plate-change month.
This September is boosted by dealerships being open to customers again but there are still some supply issues with an ongoing shortage of semi-conductors which are used in vehicles’ electrical systems.

In the first seven months of this year, pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations were 117% up on January to July 2020 at 85,032, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) rose 151% to 68,107 and self-charging hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) increased 68% to 87,261.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders now estimates that BEVs will account for 9.5% of registrations by the end of the year and PHEVs 6.5% of the market. That equates to about 290,000 cars by the end of the year!

The star car was the Ford Cortina Mark III, a 1970s’ motoring icon that became the best-selling car of the decade in the UK.
