We’re very excited about our Canaryball Rally in October in aid of Norwich City Community Sports Foundation (CSF), Credo Asset Finance’s chosen charity of the year.
We’re looking for it to raise more than £100,000 towards the Build the Nest project for a new multi-purpose community hub at Horsford. Credo has already raised £5,000 for this good cause.
Eighteen teams have signed up for the rally but there is a still a place for one team. Each team must raise at least £5,000 for Build the Nest. Those taking part pay approx £500 each to cover four nights’ accommodation only, Eurotunnel charges and a celebration party.
Emma Fletcher, CSF senior fundraising and events manager, said: “We’re delighted that Credo has chosen us as the beneficiaries of this hugely-exciting challenge. The money will help transform lives.”
The challenge, from October 9 to 13, will take the charity teams – and there’s still room for one more – from Norwich to Milan and back, visiting the three European football grounds Norwich City Football Club played at during the 1993-94 UEFA Cup run.
The Canaries beat Vitesse Arnhem 3-0 at home and drew 0-0 away before facing then three-time European champions FC Bayern Munich in the second round. A famous 2-1 win at the Olympic Stadium in Munich and a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road took City into the third round against Inter Milan.
Here the dream ended against another European Cup winner with the Canaries losing both legs 1-0.
The Canaryball Rally takes in eight countries and the Alps, combining spectacular scenery, historic cities and camaraderie and team spirit from fellow drivers.
The rally starts from The Nest in Holt Road, Horsford, near Norwich Airport, on Wednesday, October 9. It travels via the Eurotunnel to Folkestone, calling at Arnhem’s Gelre Dome stadium before stopping for the night at Düsseldorf.
Thursday, October 10 see the teams travel to Munich’s Olympiastadion, former home of FC Bayern Munich.
On Friday, October 11 the teams drive to Milan, visiting Inter Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
On Saturday, October 12 they head back to Nürburg in Germany and for a race experience at the famous Nürburgring the following day before heading back to Norwich via Calais and the Eurotunnel.
