We asked Tyrone Walker-Hebborn who recently financed his Porsche Taycan through Credo a few questions on why he decided to go electric.
Is this your first electric car?
“I have owned a hybrid for two years and wanted to go full electric for my next car. This is the way life is going, the non-polluting way of living and I am keen to be part of that”.
A Porsche is seen by many as a sports car or even a super car, there is no amazing V8 or sizzling flat-six petrol engine with the Taycan, so were you concerned that the performance would be compromised by an electric engine?
“I used to be a real petrol head and have always loved a sports model. My previous 911 was a great car, so I knew Porsche would create a fabulous electric model. I am very impressed with the Taycan. The acceleration is superb, 0-60 in 2.1 seconds so I am very happy with that!“
Do you miss the noise that comes from a powerful petrol car?
“No not really, as there is an option of a fake engine noise generator which adds an accelerative thrum. My son actually remarks that when I accelerate out the drive it sounds like the Millennium Falcon going into hyperspace! The car runs very smoothly and and I enjoy the silent running of the engine as well”.
For the more practical consideration of owning an electric car, were you worried about how far you could travel between charges?
“The model I chose can travel for over 250 miles between charges, but I don’t do a huge amount of miles each year so this wasn’t ever an issue for me. I will be able to charge from home when necessary”.
So in summary, I guess you are happy with your new purchase?
“I am delighted with this car, couldn’t be happier. This is certainly the way forward, and as mentioned before, I was a real petrol head so this needed to tick all the boxes for acceleration and a good driver experience. It’s fast, nimble, the range is good, it is beautiful and believe me it looks and sounds amazing!
